Black Away from Home is born out of my dissertation research at Howard University in 2007.  While writing my dissertation I found (although not new news but definitely publishable news) that the experiences we have as African Americans overseas has a HUGE impact on how we see ourselves in the world.  These experiences shape our worldview, our interactions and our sense of self.

It is my hope that with this blog, I can provide you with my personal experiences overseas.  I travel alone as well as with my family and I wold like for you to see how I experience the world so that you can be motivated to do the same.

Although I am starting this blog during my trip to Salvador Bahia, Brazil and have been to about 7 different countries prior to this, I hope to weave in the stories of my other experiences so that you can get a clear picture of how I see myself in the world.
